From the moment I met Joaninha I knew she was a traveler with some incredible tales to tell. Our friendship began when I volunteered to be her recipe tester for dummies. If I could figure out what she meant with the instructions then anyone could understand them.
As I was planning my departure from San Francisco for my own global wander, I thought it would be fun to share some of her tales from the road around the globe. Many of these stories I had never heard before. In this interview she shares how she:
- hitchhiked to Nicaragua
- jumped on a coconut trading pirate boat (?!?!?!)
- was a fashion designer in Paris
- did she say “almost MURDERED?” in Brazil?
As a nomad you learn to be fearless and how to follow your intuition. We talk about how you need to go places and find food and places to sleep so sometimes that means being in rare situations. BUT this is where the magic happens! This is where you meet incredible people with stories you can hardly believe and get a deeper understanding of cultures and perspectives.
Joaninha is writing an Ayurvedic cookbook after years of studying how to heal your body naturally. More than just recipes, she discusses the importance of timing your meals, hydration and how a person’s unique constitution will dictate how to care for their bodies.
On my journey I am meeting many other traveling spirits who share common philosophies and personality traits. While we all vary in background, passions and goals, the idea of getting to know different cultures and seeing this beautiful Earth drives us.
